The Tennessee Rush’s Developmental Program is the core of our club.  The goal is to teach the FUNdamentals of soccer.  Our strongest belief is that the root of the word fundamental is “FUN.” While our teams have historically enjoyed unprecedented success on the field, the emphasis remains on instilling a love of the game in all kids.

Youth, aged four to nineteen, are taught by volunteer coaches and supervised by our staff of licensed and trained coaches.  Ongoing training and technical support are offered to the volunteer coaches.  The Rush also schedules the Saturday games for each team (typically an 8-week season) and provides administrative support. 

The Developmental Branch is divided into three age divisions:

• Mighty Mites (Age 4) - Introduce kids to the game of soccer by developing their motor skills, ball skills, and concepts of small sided games.  The program will be formatted to have parents participate with their children during the session.  We feel the kids will be more comfortable and develop faster in this type of environment.
   
• Developmental (Ages 5-8) - This group consists of our tiniest Under-5 players with knees barely peeking out between their shin-guards and shorts, on up through our Under-8 players.  Emphasis is on the teaching of true basics (“Which way is your goal?”), FUN-damental soccer skills, sportsmanship, and team play. The youngest have one practice and one game per week.  The older players may have 2 practices and one Saturday game the first four weeks of the season, switching to one practice and two games per week the second half of the season to allow for as much game time as possible.
   
• Bantam (Ages 9-10) - The U-9 and U-10 players make up our Bantam group.  Increasingly complex skills are taught, specific soccer positions are learned, the size of the fields and net are larger and goalkeepers are allowed.
